[[Who are you ?]]
Miss No-Name is a silly and short text game about a kid trying to find out the name of the mysterious girl in the front of the class.
Your goal is to help him achieve this!
//Or risk his life trying...//
[[Click for Spoilers]]I started this on a whim, late February. This game was mostly a test to see how far I could fiddle with Twine and I'm already pleasently surprised.
There's a while to go before I'm a real coder though haha.
Thank you for clicking and thank you Spring Thing for giving me the outlet to make this!

[[You’re a real cool kid.]]
Actually, you're the most popular kid in your school.
You rub elbows with nearly all factions.
Cheerleaders, athletes, geniuses...
In fact, you’d even say you know everyone !
Well, you'd <i>like</i> to say everyone.
Except you don't know her…
[[That one girl with the long black hair]]She sits in front of your every class, famous in your school as the person no one talks to.
She always knows exactly where her name is alphabetically so she can say ‘here’ before the teacher calls it out.
Her icy demeanor even seems to intimidate the staff so they never say hello. People have even transferred out. Your homeroom is basically a dead-zone because of her.
It's almost as if she's a (t8n: "flicker")[ghost] in the classroom.
[[Anyway, your friends have bet you $20 to find her real name.]]
Many have tried... Many have failed....
You've taken the torch, so it’s up to you to find out who Miss No-Name really is!
[[For the money!!]]It’s homeroom.
From your seat, you stare at her intensely.
She’s just sitting there...
menacingly..
You sigh, knowing that you're getting nowhere just glaring at her.
You know what?
Who even cares about finding it out secretly??
Let’s just go up and ask her!
You jump up from your seat with a burst of energy, but once you get closer to her uninviting aura you begin to waver.
You sweat a little then come to a stop.
Actually… maybe you should be more tactful?
[[Ask her straight-up!]]
[[Be more elusive...]]You walk up confidently to the girl who doesn’t spare you even a glance.
You hold out your hand with strength.
“Hey I've seen you in class. What’s your name?” you ask slyly.
She flips her dark hair and glares your way with striking pale eyes. It's not just her eyes. In fact, you’d say her whole body is really pale.
Almost as if you could (text-style: "shadow")[phase] right through it.
It catches you off guard for a second.
She doesn’t dignify your question with an answer, taking her books and walking out of the room silently.
The whole situation was bizarre. A weird thought was forming in your mind, but you pushed it down.
After that complete failure, you feel slightly defeated.
Still you’d have another chance! The school sports festival was next week. She’d be in the crowd and then you could sneak to the teacher’s attendance board privately.
[[We'll get her next week!]]You take a chair from a nearby desk and carry it with you. Placing it down close, you sit next to her. With a kind smile you speak.
“Hey, I haven’t talked to you before!” You laugh.
You take a few minutes to ramble on about your weekend and school work before rerouting the conversation back to her.
“Honestly, you should have been there! I’ll invite you next time … um.. heh... sorry. Could you remind me of your name?” You slip in at the end.
She looks at you softly, but doesn’t seem comfortable.
“Sorry, I’d like to be left alone...” She mumbles looking away.
You're forced to back off.
You move away from her thinking of your next plan, but not before catching a glimpse of something abnormal.
She wasn’t really sitting on her chair. Her body was <i>close</i> to the wood but not <i>touching</i> it.
It’s like she was (text-style: "shadow")[hovering] above it. You shake your head and avert your eyes.
You just weren’t seeing clearly.
Anyway, you’d have another chance. The school sports festival was next week. She’d be in the crowd and then you could sneak to the teacher’s attendance board privately.
Miss No-Name’s days are numbered!
[[We'll get her next week!]]<b>It’s time for the sports festival.</b>
As expected for a real CoolKid™ like you, you’ve been put as the first runner for the mile.
In the crowd is all of your school (including your fans) calling your name in a chant.
You wave to them with a grin, but they’re not your focus.
You’re looking for a certain unnamed mistress.
After a moment of scanning the bleachers, she catches your eye. She’s in the middle of a conglomerate of people so it’s hard to make her out.
Even harder than usual, it’s as if she’s barely there.
Over the past week you were thinking of ways to get her name out in the open. Apparently the attendance board scheme was a bust. The teachers are buried in the crowd as well.
After a great many hours dedicated to deliberation, you have decided to go one of two surefire ways!
[[Let’s get sneaky…]]
[[Let’s fall in love!]]
You run your mile. A new record of course, nothing unexpected.
The crowd goes wild and you’re bombarded by your team with shouts of praise. However, your eyes trail to her as the people on the bleachers file out.
Instead of going and waiting for the line that leads back into school, she disappears past a small building used for storing sport supplies.
Quickly you run over hoping to catch her alone, but once you open the door-
//There’s no one there…//
Undeterred, you look around for any place she may have gone, but she was nowhere to be found. How could she disappear into thin air?
You stop dead.
You were feeling crazy for even thinking it, but it’s possible she’s a-
[[Next Day]]
Before running, you wave to her.
She looks away purposely.
The announcer on the horn catches this and runs up to you. “Hey star, have anything you want to say to someone special?” he asks.
“Actually yes,” you tell him. He hands you the horn and you aim right towards her in the crowd. She seems taken aback.
“This next run goes out to the girl in black!” You call out.
Girls frantically start looking at their clothes in that section of the audience, but you can tell she knows by her face.
Not embarrassed or happy, just expressionless curiosity.
You don’t really have to run your best to beat the school record, but you made it seem like you were struggling just to have the desired effect on the audience.
Once the crowd clears, you trot up to her with a smile. She doesn’t return it, but her behavior is a little more welcoming. “I beat the school record!” You say triumphantly.
She fiddles with her books nervously.
“That was nice of you to say it was for me.” She mumbles quietly. Before you can respond she runs away.
She always seems to do that.
You rub your head exasperatedly. It seems this approach would take longer than you thought…
[[And it’ll continue to take VERY long]]
You’re watching her closely now from your seat.
Before today, you’ve never noticed how discreetly she moves. You’re not one to be easily scared, but whenever her eyes glance over you with that vacant stare your heart rate quickens.
If she truly was what you were thinking she was, you’d have to find out.
When the bell rings she goes out of class first. You have to dodge your adoring fans attempting to congratulate you on your run.
Cool kid problems...
You trail quietly behind as she slips from hall to hall avoiding the crowd. After a few minutes pass she finally comes to a stop. Alertly, she looks around.
You hug the corner as your breath hitches.
After scanning, she goes into the janitor’s closet. You wait a few moments before going in yourself.
In a room with no other exits…
she was gone.
Your heart drops. This investigation was actually becoming dangerous.
A little disgruntled, you go to your next class, and there she is waiting. Same seat, unmoving…
[[Walk up to her]]
[[Don’t walk up to her]]You’ve been following her around for the past 3 months, and yet you’re nowhere close to getting her name.
By now it’s not even about the bet anymore.
You probably wouldn’t even be able to rest comfortably in your grave 60 years from now if you
//<b>don't. find. out. that. name</b>// !
Though, it’d be a little bit of an exaggeration to say you’ve gotten //nowhere//.
Little by little, you’ve both become kinder to one to one another. She finally has more than 1 sentence to occasionally toss your way.
And you admit you’ve enjoyed talking with her some days as well.
At least now you can really say you know everyone in school.
Right now it’s February. Not just any day in February, but Valentine’s Day. Today you’d surely get her name with your plan.
You bought flowers, chocolate, and a card.
$16 in total. You’ll get $4 net pay if you win the bet ;) Financially smart…
Anyway, you’re going to go up to her right now to start that plan!
With a smile, you walk up to Miss No-Name who’s reading a book in her seat. You tap on her shoulder and then hide. She looks back confused, before you jump up in front showering her with the presents.
You can see a faint smile on her lips. “Happy Valentine’s Day!” You cheer.
“Thank you..” she answers quietly, accepting them. “I wrote this whole note in the card too.” You say dangling it right out of her reach.
“I just can’t finish it though… I haven’t signed the name of the person it’s addressed to.” You sigh dramatically.
“I’ll still like it.” She mumbles. Her pale white eyes dart around nervously.
[[“Nope, you have to tell me”]]
[[“Well.. I guess you can have it”]]
She squeezes her hands together, but it’s like there’s no pressure on them at all.
You wait tensely for her response.
Over the time you had been with her, you could tell she wasn’t like everyone else. As far as you knew, no parents, no siblings, no… anyone.
It was as if she barely (text-style: "shadow")[existed] out of the classroom.
No-name was a mystery. You didn’t want to stress her, but you couldn’t just give up.
“I’m sorry.” She stands up and rushes out the door. Shocked, you run after her. It didn’t take much to catch up since she was out of breath the next second.
“Hey, you don’t have to go!” You say quickly. “I mean, if you don’t want to tell me you don’t have to.” She still glances at you with wary eyes. “Truly. Why don’t we go somewhere tomorrow? Just so I can say sorry again.”
Her eyes cloud like she’s lost in thought. It takes a moment before she responds,
[[“Okay.”]]
Her smile widens.
It’s the most expressive you’ve ever seen her. “Thank you.” she tells you with a light look.
You fan your ego with her praise, and say “Hey, it’s the least I could do!”
“Hey..” She says quickly. “Do you want to come over to my house tomorrow?”
You're surprised by her assertiveness. “Sure, why?”
She nervously moves her fingers on her lap.
“It’s a surprise. I’ll text you the address okay?” Embarrassed, she leaves the room with the gifts.
You’d like to say you were pondering what the surprise was, but your mind was mainly on her face. Even when she’s embarrassed, her face never flushes. It’s always the same pale color… everyday…
You tried to ignore the striking interest you had in finally seeing what her home looked like.
[[Tommorow arrives...]]The next day you’re with her.
Just walking around the park, talking about nothing. Well, mostly you talking. She just nods along.
Your goal is to make her all happy again after yesterday’s debacle.
You pick up a yellow flower and place it in her hair with a grin. She smiles back and looks away. The flower doesn’t stay in place though, almost a second later it slips from her hair.
She catches it quickly and puts it in her bag.
You pull out all the stops, icecream, movie, MORE gifts. A cool kid like you knows how it works. She seems happier by the end of it, even though she didn’t eat any of her ice cream.
As you walk, a lady approaches with a ferocious tiny dog barking everywhere. As it comes closer, you can feel No-Name getting more worried.
[[Confront the woman]]
[[Move somewhere else]]
(text-colour:"#e68019")[The day has finally come.
You walk with her into the apartment. It’s completely in the middle of nowhere. If you were just passing through you’d think it was an abandoned city. Flakes of dried purple paint flutter down when she opens the stuck door. If you weren’t nervous before, you surely were now.
She seems a little happier though. She takes your hand and leads you in. It’s a small apartment, no one around. “Take a seat and stay there.” she says pointing to a round coffee table and a ground pillow. “Sure..”, you answer back, sitting down. She leaves and disappears within her home.]
You sit there quietly with a smile. You trusted Miss No-Name after all this time.
Any apprehensions you had before were almost completely gone.
She comes back with tea, but doesn’t sit next to you. In fact, she seems a little gloomy as she looks off to the side.
“What’s up?” You ask.
“I know your secret.” she says.
You freeze as her grip on the cups tighten. You speak quickly, “What do you m-” “You just want to know my name, right? You didn’t have any real interest in me.”
You sew your mouth shut and look at her guiltily. A tense moment passes over both you and she sighs. She sits down close and offers you the cup.
“Honestly, I’d love to hurt you really badly right now..” She says looking at her lap and scrunching her fists tight.
You sweat nervously.
“But I just want to know. Do you not care about me at all?” She asks, with wavering eyes.
You take a moment to reflect.
How do you really feel about Miss No-Name?
[[I guess... I like her]]
[[I mean, It was just for the money]]
You walk up to the woman heroically and effectively chew her out on the ethics of bringing an angry dog out in public.
It turns into an argument very fast, and before you know it she’s threatening to call the police and you’re stomping away holding No-Name’s hand.
“Stop, please.” Miss No-Name refuses to move. “What’s wrong?” You ask.
“I can’t believe you just did that. I’m so ashamed.” She holds her arm and backs away. You’re shocked, “But it was for you!”
She shakes her head and walks off. “Please… don’t talk to me anymore.” She mutters, her voice reaches you in the wind.
You’re heated and distraught.
Her name will forever be a secret.
And you wasted $35 on it!
<b><i><u>Ending 1 of 7 / “A penny for her thoughts”</b></i></u>
You take her hand and lead her onto a different path.
She looks at you with a grateful expression.
Soon it gets dark and orange lighting from the sunset falls on you both. “Thank you for taking me out..” she says.
“Heh, it’s no problem!” You grin. “I’m like, the //best//.” You hear her giggle for the first time and feel proud.
“Hey, are you willing to hang out with me one more time?” She asks, nearly silent. “Of course.” You answer immediately. “Okay, well. Do you want to come over tomorrow?”
You beam at another opportunity to get her name. “Yeah, sure.” She smiles slightly. “I’ll text you my address then.” She says before running off.
You watch her disappear behind a tree and reflect over your accomplishments.
You’ve gone about $15 over your expected earnings, but the great feeling you'll get once you finally learn her name will over-compensate for it.
It has to be tomorrow.
[[You can’t wait any longer...]]

[[I guess... I like her]]
[[I mean, It was just for the money]]
You walk up and try to act like you haven’t been stalking her for the past 3 hours.
You were thinking of this plan since last night, and now you could put it in action.
“Hey, I saw you yesterday at the festival!” You start with a laugh. She just looks at you with a dull expression making you more nervous.
“Anyway, you look pretty smart and stuff. I need a tutor for math, would you be available?” You get to the point immediately.
She takes a moment to think before answering. “Actually, I would. I do need some more hours for community service.” She whispers mostly to herself than to you.
“Would you be willing to meet at my house tomorrow? I can text you the address.” she asks. This opportunity is great..! Her name has to be plastered somewhere in that home.
“I’d love that.” you say attempting to mask your excitement. She grants you a small smile and looks back to her work.
You’d definitely be going… but not without some extra insurance.
[[Tomorrow... for sure]]
You avoid her and walk into the classroom nervously. She’s just sitting there. Plainly writing notes, but everything she does seems much more sinister now..
You have to learn her name, someway, somehow. You decide, once you get home, that you’d be following her to her house the next day. It may be illegal-y, but the law can’t suppress a cool cat like you from learning the truth.
You feel like you’re in too deep to give up.
[[Cool cats are above the law!]]You’ve followed her on your walk home.
She goes inside an apartment that you assume is hers. Trailing behind her, you go around the building trying to peek inside a window.
Next to her apartment is a grassy lot, full of trash.
As your shoes continuously step in unidentified substances, you start to wonder if this is all worth it...
But you know why you’re here.
Maybe there's a some participation certificate or late Christmas stockings hanging where her name would be spelt out.
Only problem is that all of the windows have been blocked off with board.
Frustrated, you walk around multiple times until you finally find one that's free. It’s a lot taller than you so you’d have to jump to make it.
As a record long-jumper this is way in your alley!
You walk back a few feet, take off in a run, jump, and grab the sill.
“Yes!” You say quietly, and pull yourself up to look inside.
In the window, there she is staring back at you with dark foreboding eyes.
You’re so startled your fingers slip and you fall down. Your body screams at you to run, but you can’t feel your lower left ankle. You glance down and can clearly see it turning purple.
Maybe it’s best you couldn’t feel it.
You hear her door open and close it as she walks up to you.. “L-leave!” You stutter, dragging yourself away.
She bends down and stares at you.
With a smile, she lets out an airy laugh. “I should probably be saying that to you.”
Grabbing you by the collar and stepping on your broken ankle, she stares into your eyes. You wince and hold back from yelling out.
“You’ve been stalking me. I will kill you, if you even look at me ever again.” She mutters.
You nod fervently, as she tosses you to the ground. Digging in your pocket, she takes out your phone and chucks it across the street. Without even a goodbye, she walks off back into her apartment.
In this abandoned town, that phone was your only hope of calling the paramedics.
You begin your painful trudge to the street and you know she’s watching you outside that single window.
Probably with a smile on her face.

(text-colour:"#e68019")[The day has finally come.

You have all of your gear in your bag.
Spreading your books on the table you think over your options. It seems she’ll be gone for a while. Investigating may be your only chance to find out her name, but getting up is risky.
What would a CoolKid™ do in this situation?
[[Look around]]
[[Don’t look around]]
“I think I do like you..” you say, embarrassed.
You’ve never been the one confessing before. In fact you recieved at least 12 notes on Valentine's Day (and that's not even a record).
Her wispy eyes flicker with surprise and for a second she looks like a normal girl. She the looks down, slightly embarrassed too. “I’m glad.” she mutters.
She leans in closer.
You flinch at her proximity. Next to your ear she cups her hands and whispers.
Your eyes widen.
She whispers the words you’ve dedicated the last 3 months of your life to hearing.
//“Hey.. my name is Avery.”//
<b><i><u>Ending 2 of 7 / “For who she is”</b></i></u>
You tell her quietly that it was all for the money.
Her expression sinks. A wave of sorrow washes over her and you can feel it completely.
But then it starts bubbling.
Steaming, burning, until you see her standing in front you clutching the teacups.
“You used me… you wouldn’t understand how much this hurts…” She growls, throwing the tea your way.
The burning water scalds your arm and you jump back holding it gingerly. She hovers over the ground with a cold expression.
“I knew it.. you’re… you’re a ghost!” You exclaim, pointing accusingly at her.
Her eyes flicker back and forth confused, then she rolls them.
“I’m not a ghost.” she says moving forward.
“Then what are you..?” You answer. Your eyes dart to the side. The door is too far to run for, and you have nothing on you to attack with. Especially considering the state your arm is in.
She flips her hair behind her back and gets closer and closer, until you’re nearly touching. She flashes you a smile and your heart sinks.
You can barely scream it out.
“A vampi-”
<b><i><u>Ending 3 of 7 / “Liars never prosper”</b></i></u>You get up silently and walk yourself up to some rooms in the corridor.
Miss No-Name is presumably making some food behind kitchen doors.
You glance behind doors. Closets, bathrooms, and finally… a bedroom.
You walk in sweating bullets. Each creak of the floorboards make you feel as if you’ll swing back and see her there. With that vacant stare…
You sift through drawers, looking for anything that might have her name written on it.
An old school paper, an award, a note? Anything please!
Under her pillow, you find what you’re looking for. A crumpled piece of paper that seemed like an unsent letter.
//Signed by / / / / / //
Ugh, it’s scratched out.
Out of the corner of your eye you see another crumpled letter on her headstand, but you hear shuffling in the kitchen. It’s right there though…
[[Read the letter]]
[[Quickly go back]]
You can’t seem to find the will to go.
Maybe another opportunity would present itself instead. As you wait patiently for her to come back, you start thinking of escape plans and scanning the room for any sign of her name.
Stretching your arms you yawn and settle your legs.
Your foot hits something, and you look down with mild curiosity.
It's a book under the coffee table.
You take it and trace your finger over the spine. It’s new and purple.
<b><i>"Miss No-Name"…</b></i> is what it’s called.
Hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
How could she possibly know your nickname for her?
On the cover, your eyes immediately trail to the author.
<b><i>Written by Avery.</b></i>
With cold blood flowing through your veins you quickly throw open the pages.
Your heart sinks.
Goosebumps erupt on your skin.
You could even swear that strands of hair fall from your head as you flip.
<b><i>“A real cool kid…”
“Your days are numbered…”</b></i>
You turn around to see her standing there.
You trip over words as you speak, but the true idea manages to come out just fine.
“How are you writing my story?”
[[Suddenly, it goes dark.]]
You grab and scan the letter.
c’mon... c’mon...
You groan trying to find any mention of it. You make it to the end, and her name is scratched out once more.
“What are you doing?” A voice behind you comes.
Your blood runs cold.
Miss No-Name stands there holding a knife in her left hand. “U-uh.. I..” You can’t seem to find any words. Her face tells you she knows it all.
“Looking for my name? I knew that was the only reason you wanted me to be your tutor.” She approaches you.
You're caught frozen in her white foreboding eyes. She takes another step and you yell “Get away from me. I know what you are.”
You groan, you didn’t have your bag of supplies with you.
She smiles a sad smile getting so close that you can feel her breath.
“Then what am I?” she asks, tossing her knife to the ground.
“You’re a gho-” You stop. “Do you understand now?” she whispers.
You can barely get the words out. “If you’re a ghost then how come you’re breathi-”
You’re woozy.
With the last bits of consciousness you have, you can feel her teeth sunk into your neck.
<b><i><u>Ending 4 of 7 / “Curiosity killed the-”</b></i></u>
You go back to the table in a mad power walk.
You’re breathing heavily by the time you get there. A few moments later, she walks in with tea in her hand. The aroma fills the house.
She sits next to you with a kinder smile. “So what do you need the most help with in math?” She asks. You don’t answer, staring at her as sweat drips down your face.
“Truth be told, I’m not here for tutoring.” you tell her straight-out.
Her expression darkens.
“It was about your name, but now it’s about something more.” You say.
“You’re a ghost, No-Name.”
She stares at you and then gets up. You jump up as well. “I thought so.. I knew you were trailing me for the past week.” she sighs looking away. You tense up, and take out supplies from your bag.
Pure salt, water, crystals, pendants. All of the good stuff.
“You’ve got something wrong though.” She mutters. “I’m not a ghost.” She opens her mouth and flashes fangs your way.
“W-what.. You’re a vampire…” You barely gasp out.
You could almost hit yourself. That's why her skin was so pale, why she had pure black hair, and why she was hovering over the WOODEN chairs.
You look at the now useless things in your hands. //Pieces of junk.//
“Hey, why do you want to know my name so bad?” She asks quietly, approaching you. You can already tell that you’re done for so you answer, backing up.
“It used to be for the money, but it became an obsession one of these days.” You laugh sourly. You find your back against the wall, and she’s closed you in.
“Hey.. what even is //your// name?” She whispers next to your ear.
You could almost do a double-take!
You’re the most popular kid in school how could she not know!
..Your name.
(text-style: "blur")[“Who are you?”]
Your name?
(text-style: "blur")[“You’re a real cool kid”]
Your head aches..
(text-colour:"#e68019")[//“Hey.. what even is my name?”//]
Blood slips down your neck, you feel stunned and immobile.
Falling to the ground your eyes fall on a mysterious book underneath the coffee table. Too late to grab it now.
You can feel yourself fading.
She stops for a moment to speak before you’re completely gone.
“My name is Avery. Take it to your grave, no-name.”
<b><i><u>Ending 5 of 7 / “What’s in a name?”</b></i></u>
//“That was fun! I think I’ll post it!”
“I just wish it were true though… even if I were a ghost-vampire-human hybrid, no one cares enough to really want to know my name.”
“I just hope the audience likes it at least.”
<b>“Avery! Come wash the dishes.”</b>
“Ah… I guess I’ll post it later. I’m coming mom!”//
<b><i><u>Ending 6 of 7 / “True End”</b></i></u>
You're sure?
[[Yes]]Miss No-Name's true name is Avery.
She's the author of the story as well as a character featuring in it.
Having no friends or people interested in knowing who she is, she made an interactive fictional escape into a world where at least 1 person wanted to know her name.
In her story, she's a living vampire. She chooses this instead of the traditional red-eyed, undead, beast in order to push the ghost theory along.
Due to this she can stay in sunlight, although objects can easily slip through her straight hair.
In her story she's also often seen disappearing. She reveals on many paths that she knew that the main character was following her, so she hides in these places until they leaves to play with their psyche.
She torments the main character with this secret and especially hurts them when she reveals that the main character is the true one between them that doesn't have a name.
During the events of the "true ending" the truth of the world is revealed and the main character is shocked.
