Pacific Rim
Parallels between military and monster movies/ history and development between the two
Worldbuilding around a time you've lived through, a divergence in universes
Disaster movie world building in areas you've lived in (new phenomena)
Theres a certain novelty in seeing places you’ve been to or known in disaster films like these. Usually places like New York are the subject of these films- historically cultural phenomena like these things have always been Eurocentric. War of the worlds, etc. The location shift of culture over the past few decades has been shifting over towards places like the west, California, Japan, China being a few of the big contributors. Watching my tiny island nation (Okinawa, not mainland lmao) benefit from this growth over the past few years has been a delight.
How this cult following has shaped portions of my life
Ability to recite the whole thing

The idea of the drift in pacific rim
Alternate option- video looping + factoids +character analysis while doing the mile run
The idea of the alternate universe trope (string theory) Discussions you had with will about nihilism and the concept of multiple universes
The drift is empirical evidence of the fact that we are not alone, (rejects perspectivism! Wild.)
Two's character being (curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal)
Connection to the drift and the monadology, installation where the tv screens blur together with each other, then an alien entity. The hive mind as it fractals and splinters
What does the frog’s eye tell the frog’s brain?

On another note I cant believe this is the way I actually write and i’m exceedingly sorry to the person that has to proofread this. (Why the hell would anyone need to proofread this?)
Hey I could write a poem. in theory.
How far am I removed from history, in reality?
idea of the mind meld was popularized in star trek/
Anyway I’ve been thinking over the years about the whole mind meld brain device type deal. It’s never addressed, in the movie, about what happens if you drift with someone you’re not compatible with.
Ok!
What happens to the fraction of a hive mind, basically. (Consequences of the drift)
Works
The drift itself in terms of the film
the experience of the drift, melding that idea of human and disaster machine in one form
Aftermath of said drift, expressions from one shifting into another
Isolation (monad straws bleeding over like fuck)

Use audio recordings in some capacity.
We are only able (as humans) to process things in our specific ways, i.e.: sight, sound smell, over time and space. Thoughts that are purely put on a piece of paper or scribbled down are as close as we get to understanding that person (in this universe)
We drift by acquiring information over time, and a sudden onslaught of information is overwhelming and incomprehensible for the most part.

Focus: The Drift
What does the drift mean for Philosophy (Hive mind, Other universes, alien existence. Giant alien existence.)
What does the drift mean for society? ("To fight monsters, we built monsters of our own". How does this new generation correlate with the meaning of this movie? Where did the desire for the drift come from?)
What does the drift mean for Two? (and Three?) ((And the kaiju)) Similarities, differences
Homages to alien hive minds everywhere (Borg'd)
Wish list
Aesthetic: Egon Schiele, Monad TV screen, Designations Congruent With Things, The Blue Rider, Robert rauchenberg, Things that have fundamental differences juxtaposed, similarities highlighted. (NOTHING IN BETWEEN)

Again, I need to choose my topics and do more research on each one. Come up with the pieces and the materials necessary to make them.
First and foremost I want to have a clarity of concept. (HAHAHAHAHA)
EXPOUNDING ON THIS -Sylvia
Origin stories of all the characters, (ie Three=turing Six=kaiju=godzilla) seen through the drift
Where they came from from del toro’s perspective, their culmination as characters
Work with collage, multimedia, notebooks forming into characters, worlds forming- separating from our timeline- pulling back into our timeline
We’re drifting with the movie! (in a really weird Kandinsky painting sorta way)
Remember intro/outro will provide context but make it poetic and fun.
Divided into three main parts
Two
Three
Six
Pieces will operate like things that stick together
Big collage piece will connect to war, if you stare into the abyss the abyss stares back- right at the very end of the collage. Much of it will be in written letters. Turning concepts into characters.
Rotten tomatoes lineup of some sort????
Pons will be more simplistic- conceptual. Focused on our perception vs the reality of it. It flickers from person to person.
Build a kaiju? Something to depict size in mass. Like a wave. (Keep in mind distinct difference between the idea of the tsunami and the actuality of it.)
Large minimalist cube painted with something blue and iridescent, smooth over the grounds it walks. something connects it to the other side of the room, (make it organic? Kinda gross? GELATIN. or literally dye meat blue.)
TURN THE BLUE CUBE INTO A LITERAL THEATRE, PROJECT THE IDEA OF THE HIVEMIND DIRECTLY ONTO IT
have a shiny glaze with honeycomb metallic-y paint under it- or maybe nerve cell like
I need to do more research on solipsism. (CONT)
The idea of the kaiju connect to my background in an inextricable way. The end of WWII was marked by two atom bombs dropped on Japan. General Macarthur then became a quasi-dictator of the nation, Japan became kind of a buffer zone between China, etc. etc.
The idea of (the lack of) free will is funny if you put a spin on it, suppose you’re trying to recreate that experiment where one speeds up time by moving real fast in an airplane for a long period of time. If there is no free will, you’ve been predetermined to spending what time you have hurtling through space and time trying to figure everything out, I find this idea extremely humorous.
Reality is something you experience, just as mortality is.
