The ideas here are mainly from my own experience teaching with no specific source. Additionally, I have used Craig Barton's Book 'HOW I WISH I'D TAUGHT MATHS'. It gave me some useful ideas and clarified my thinking through it's well written use of language, explanations and examples.
The book also gives evidence to support some of my claims, which I have neglected to do, as of writing.
The idea is that they might see an example of a method for teaching, that I find useful and be able to appropriate it for themselves. I hope it could be clear enough for some students to be able to use as well, though there are very few headings so far.

This is achieved by introducing many different number representations at once.
I have planned out a similar table which has 47 headings and considered 81 conversions between them.
Reasoning;
⦁ Different students will have different domain specific knowledge.
⦁ Numbers can be represented in numerous equivalent ways and questions may demand understanding of any of them. It is helpful to introduce them and increase the students domain specific knowledge.
Further Effects;
⦁ Students may find the variety more interesting.
3. Use links.
This is achieved through tables and asking the student to convert from one number representation to another.
Reasoning;
⦁ Links are necessary to have patterns to spot.
⦁ At first, the student can work on converting representations they struggle with to ones they prefer. If the student understands substitution then they can employ this method in many situations.
⦁ Eventually the students knowledge should increase to be able to use any required number representations interchangably.
Further Effects;
⦁ The student may start to take note of the interconnectedness in maths and the use behind understanding it.
4. ''Use low stakes practice''
This is achieved through asking the student to fill in the cells which are linked to other cells on the table and allowing the student autonomy to decide which cells to fill.
Reasoning;
⦁ Reduce stress so the student is less focused on mistakes, punishment, looking silly etc.. so they can focus on the question at hand.
⦁ For a table with 10 headings and 10 examples, where a conversion or row has a certain pattern, the student can employ that pattern so that answering 9 (//there must be at least 1 starter cell//) questions feels like answering 1. This can actually make the student believe the teacher is being 'tricked'.
⦁ A table to convert from one number representation to another (and back) gives 2 headings (h=2) and 2 conversions (c=2). Including additional headings allows the student to unknowingly (or knowingly) practice converting between these extra number representations. This will increase the number of conversions in a similar manner to a complete graph; (h)(h-1)=c.
Further Effects;
⦁ There becomes too many conversions to teach all of them. This allows the student to link representations for themselves .
⦁ The student has autonomy to decide which conversions to use.
5. ''Be adaptable''
Specific headings, number of headings, details of explanations, number of examples, order of examples, number of filled cells, example lists etc... can be controlled by the teacher and aimed towards students at many different stages of progress.
Reasoning;
⦁ This method can work very effectively and being able to extend it to many students would therefore be beneficial.
Other effects;
⦁ The teacher must choose headings and examples carefully, as there are many options.
6. ''Be explicit''
Set the detail of explanation to correspond to with what the student requires. It is the responsibility of the teacher to recognise this.
Reasoning;
⦁ A process may appear simple but have numerous stages of diverse understanding required, when examined and broken down. Any one of these may be a stumbling point for a student.
7. ''Retrieval''
The student should be taught that rows are all equivalent representatations of the same number or amount and filling in 1 cell allows all others to be filled, based on that information.
Due to the dramatic improvement and large amount of information presented a retention of a small percentage can mean a significant increase in understanding.
Through choosing the correct headings and examples and with an hours direction, then the next day (and after writing out the same headings and similar examples for the student) most informaton can be retrieved and the table filled much more quickly than before, with much less direction.
This method can also help students during exams or other practice. An appropriate table can be drawn (from memory) for them to refer back to, with which they may convert difficult representations to ones they prefer.
8.''Effective differentiation''
Students may all begin these tasks at the same time and be allowed to complete them at their own rate. On spotting patterns they would even enjoy teaching each other.
Any students succesfully completing the table faster than others can be given further tables with more difficult examples and/or new headings, to test their knowledge further.

Hi. I am uploading a html file and some pictures. They show a method I find extremely useful when teaching students conversions between number representations, that helps get them used to handling numbers presented in many forms.

I have spent quite a bit of time on this. I believe and hope some people could find it as useful as I do.
There are only a very few, super simple conversions shown so far though if anybody likes the method, I can easily and quickly add more. I have 47 headings and 81 conversions planned out and much more on operations and skills. The coding was the difficult part for me.
Feedback will be welcomed. I have attempted to make the method clear and simple but I am certain there are improvements to make. I have included a blurb focused on explaining, to educators, the reasoning behind my choices.
